On 17 December, 2020, Nigeria's Air Peace will launch a new service between Lagos and Johannesburg, South Africa. The service will be the airline's second long haul service after Sharjah, Dubai which it launched in July, 2019.
As part of its commitments to passenger experience, Air Peace has put a lot in place to make the new Lagos-Johannesburg service memorable for passengers including the signature Air Peace hospitality. From passengers' perspective, here's what to expect onboard the flight.
The Aircraft
Perhaps, the first thing you should know about the Lagos-Johannesburg service is that it'll be operated by a Boeing 777 aircraft. A long-haul workhorse and a game-changer, the Boeing 777 is one of the world's most advanced passenger jets. It perfectly combines power, reliability, superior range, and passenger comfort. Its flying experience makes it very popular among passengers.
The Seats
The aircraft rostered on the Lagos-Johannesburg service is a three-class Boeing 777-300 configured with 320 seats including 12 in First Class, 48 in Business Class and 260 in the Economy Class.
First Class passengers will enjoy the ultimate luxury of travelling in a personal space. With a pitch of 69" and a seat that reclines into a flat bed, First Class passengers are in for a super comfortable ride. Each First Class seat also features a minibar, 23" personal TV, USB Socket, and an AC power for laptops.
In the Business Class cabin, passengers will enjoy seats with 46" pitch reclinable seat with electronic recline, individual reading light as well as AC power socket for laptops. Who says you can't work on the go?
In addition to ergonomic seats designed for long haul flights, economy class passengers will also enjoy generous legroom of 33 inches. Each economy class seat features personal Audio Video on Demand (AVOD) in-flight entertainment system and a power socket.
In-Flight Entertainment/Catering
Whether you want to watch your all-time favourite movie or listen to music while in flight, Air Peace has you covered. Irrespective of the class you're travelling in, you'll be treated to hours of in-flight entertainment on your personal Audio Video on Demand (AVOD) TV screen. In addition to continental and regional contents, passengers will have the option of watching their favourite Nollywood movies on the go.
With the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, most airlines scaled down their onboard meal services in order to minimize the physical contacts between passengers and crew members. However, many airlines have resumed offering full in-flight meal services.
As far as passengers are concerned, food is an important element of long haul flying. That is why Air Peace has invested in in-flight catering to ensure that passengers enjoy a memorable and unforgettable experience throughout their journey. The signature Air Peace hospitality awaits them.
Passengers on Lagos-Johannesburg flights should expect to enjoy excellent on-board menus featuring an exquisite fusion of African and western cuisines with a touch of authentic Nigerian flavours. Conventional as well as local dishes will be onboard to titillate your taste buds. Perhaps, you'll have a chance of enjoying the popular Nigerian jollof rice or even 'swallow'. Wines and non-alcoholic drinks will also be on board to complete the gastronomic experience.
Fare Classes and Baggage Allowance
On the Lagos-Johannesburg service, Air Peace is offering 4 fare options: Economy Non-Flexi, Economy Flexi, Business, and First. Each of them offers passengers various degrees of flexibility.
Economy Non-Flexi fares are non-refundable, but fully changeable, although change fees and fare difference may apply. Passengers travelling on Economy Non-Flexi tickets will be entitled to 3 pieces 23kg of baggage, one piece of hand luggage up to 6kg plus one small handbag.
Economy Flexi offers refundable and partly used non-refundable fully changeable tickets (change fees and fare difference may apply). No show fee applies. Passengers on this ticket type are entitled to 3 pieces 23kg of baggage, 1 piece of hand luggage up to 6kg plus 1 small handbag.

The Crew
Give it to them! Air Peace has some of the most professional and experienced crews in the industry. They're some of the friendliest and most cheerful flight crews I've ever met. I have no doubt Air Peace will replicate their signature crew professionalism, hospitality, and friendliness on the Lagos-Johannesburg route. Get ready to meet professional pilots in the cockpit and ever-smiling Flight Attendants in the cabin. What else can you ask for? Oh, have you seen their Isi Agu (Tiger head) cabin crew uniform?
The Schedule
The Lagos-Johannesburg service has been conveniently timed to allow for a night departure from Lagos and an early morning arrival in Johannesburg. Flight P47563 will depart Lagos at 11 pm and arrive Johannesburg at 5:00 am the next day. Return Flight P47564 will depart Johannesburg at 08:00 am and arrive Lagos by 1pm. All times are local.
A Piece of Advice
At just about 5 hours, the Lagos-Johannesburg service is not a long haul flight and shouldn't give passengers a lot of health and safety concerns. However, to have the best possible experience on the flight, you should note the following few tips.
1. Take little or no caffeine before and during your flight. Caffeine has heightened effects at altitudes like restlessness, nausea and heartburn.
2. Avoid fried foods, too much alcohol and carbonated drinks as they can lead to drowsiness and flatulence.
3. Choose a familiar food option to avoid stomach upsets which can lead to frequent visits to the toilet.
4. Drink a lot of water before and during your flight to avoid dehydration and headaches. The sky has low humidity compared to the ground, so flying naturally dehydrates.
5. Take a walk at intervals during your flight to stretch your legs, it's a very effective way to reduce jet-lag and minimize the risk of deep vein thrombosis.
