Qantas is increasing its operations in Southern Africa with a new nonstop service between Perth, Australia and Johannesburg, South Africa.
From 1 November, 2022, Qantas will operate three times a week using an Airbus A330 aircraft featuring the airline’s Business class suites and ergonomic Economy class seats.
The flights will cut more than six hours from the fastest current travel time, with customers flying to Johannesburg from Perth currently having to fly on Qantas via Sydney, or via the Middle East.
With a large South African community in Perth, the flights will be popular with people visiting family and friends as well as business and leisure travellers.
The route will be the only direct service between Perth and South Africa, and will offer convenient one-stop connections to and from other Australian cities.
The new route is in addition to Qantas’ existing four-weekly service from Sydney to Johannesburg, which will increase to daily from 30 October, 2022. The service is operated by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
Regarding the new route, Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce said:
“Western Australia has become an increasingly important part of our international network and we’re really excited to be launching more routes from Perth."
“There’s a big South African population that lives in Western Australia and this will be great for people travelling in both directions to see family and friends. It will also help support the economic ties between Australia and South Africa.”
The addition of Johannesburg will mean Qantas will operate international flights from Perth to five destinations including London, Rome, and Singapore.
Tickets for Perth-Johannesburg flights have already gone on sale with fares starting from $1800 return.

Wow! Stunning! Hilton seems to be taking Africa by storm. Just a couple of years back, they opened the first ever in Eswatini.
Wonderful event and topics discussed, hopefully we see the manifestations in our African airline businesses in the nearest future. Kudos to you all.
