The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), on Thursday, 23 May, 2024, released four incidents and accident reports, with a call to the relevant authorities to implement the 20 safety recommendations outlined in the report.
The reports include the final reports on an incident involving an Embraer 145LR operated by Air Peace, on 14 January, 2021 at Kaduna Airport; final report on the ground collision incident between a Lavatory Service Truck with fleet operated by Skyway Aviation Handling Company Plc (SAHCO) and a parked Boeing 737-300 aircraft operated by Max Air which occurred at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja on 21 November, 2021.
Other reports are preliminary report on an incident involving an MD-82 Aircraft operated by Dana Air which occurred on 23 April 2024 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, as well as preliminary report on a boat mishap that occurred at one nautical mile from Onono Jetty in Anambra West LGA, Anambra State en route Asaba Jetty in Asaba, Delta State on 10, April 2024.
Speaking at the maiden press conference of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), Capt Alex Badeh Jnr., Director General of the NSIB, said the Bureau which has undergone a positive transformation from Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) is committed to promoting transparency and accountability.
"The NSIB has undergone a remarkable transformation over the past few years, evolving from the erstwhile Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) to the NSIB in 2022.
This transition signifies our commitment to excellence and dedication to enhancing safety across all modes of transportation in Nigeria and anywhere Nigeria's interest is involved."
Calling for a collective effort to ensure safer operations, Captain Bade said that NSIB, through its team of experts, has paid great attention to details, uncovering the root causes of the accidents and incidents.
"Our team of experts has worked tirelessly to uncover the root causes of various incidents and accidents through meticulous analysis, thorough research, and unwavering dedication. The publication of these reports serves as a testament to our commitment to safety and underscores our mission to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
We understand the importance of sharing knowledge, lessons learned, and best practices with all stakeholders involved in the transportation industry. We can collectively strive towards a safer and more secure environment by fostering collaboration and open communication."
Stakeholders believe that these reports and recommendations will prevent future occurrences of similar accidents and incidents.
