Meliá Hotels Ranks 7th For Sustainable Management

Wall Street Journal (WSJ) has published its ranking of the world's most sustainably managed companies and Meliá Hotels International ranked seventh in the world.

Meliá is the leading travel company in the ranking and one of the only two Spanish companies in the top 10 of "Companies managed in a sustainable way" worldwide The ranking assesses companies based on their programmes, policies, performance and results of actions they carry out to manage their businesses in a sustainable way

The ranking is prepared by the newspaper's experts in Environment, Social and Corporate Governance (also known as ESG) based on an evaluation of more than 5,500 listed companies in terms of a range of metrics and sustainability criteria, aiming to reflect how companies manage financial matters related to areas such as the environment, human and social capital, and innovation.

Each company has been scored on a combination of up to 165 indicators they report and publish and more than 8,800 sources of journalistic information, using a hybrid methodology that employs artificial intelligence together with human validation by the WSJ research team.

Meliá's rating has been strongly influenced by its environmental programmes and reports, including aspects such as energy, water and environmental management in hotels, having invested more than 15 million dollars in environmental projects since 2016.

The Group is ranked 7th in the Environment category, 36th in Innovation and Business Model, 68th in Human Capital, and 86th in Social Commitment.
