Meliá Hotels International Named Leading Company in Diversity

Meliá Hotels International continues to make progress in its ESG projects and has now been named among the leading companies in Europe for diversity. The company has made significant progress in recent years thanks to a commitment to offer a work environment focused on equality and diversity.

In a special report on diversity in major companies, the Financial Times has identified European companies in different industries that are showing leadership and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.

The classification of companies has been made by Statista, which has also carried out a survey of more than 100,000 European workers. The factors taken into account in the assessment were age, gender, ethnicity, disability, LGBTQ+ and diversity in general.

Among all the companies analysed, Meliá Hotels International has also been named one of the top 10 companies for diversity in Spain. This acknowledgement is the result of Meliá's best practices in employment and its strong commitment to its employees.

In the company's second Equality Plan, introduced in 2019 and currently still in force, Meliá assumes a commitment to promote diversity in nine key areas: access to the company, recruitment, promotion, training, remuneration, occupational health, gender violence, communication and work-life balance.

In addition to commitments in all these areas, Meliá Hotels International also actively promotes training on equality at every level in the company. As a pioneer in reaching an agreement with the IUF (International Union of the Hotel Industry) to combat harassment, Meliá has further strengthened its support for a more diverse, fair and safe work environment.

Meliá Hotels International has also been part of a cluster of companies called ClosinGap since 2018. The objective of the cluster is to reduce the gender gap in employment through an analysis of the opportunity cost for the economy of not taking advantage of female talent.

The company's efforts have led to it forming part of the Ibex Gender Equality index, a ranking based on the number of women in managerial positions in listed Spanish companies which only considers companies with at least 25% of women on the Board of Directors. 36.36% of the positions on the Meliá board are currently held by women, and the company aims to reach 40% by 2023.

Meliá Hotels International has also recently been named a Top Employer Brand in Spain, Mexico and the Dominican Republic due to its excellent work environment and best practices. These three countries currently account for 46% of all company employees.
