The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, Enugu State, will reopen for flight operations on Monday, 28th April 2025. The reopening of the airport follows the completion of the emergency runway repairs.
It will be recalled that on April 18th, 2025, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) announced that, due to a sudden and significant rupture in the asphalt surface at a critical section of the runway, the runway would be shut down for emergency repairs.
In a statement released today and signed by Mrs Obiageli Orah, Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, FAAN, the agency stated that the rehabilitation work on the airport's runway was completed earlier than scheduled.
The work had been scheduled to begin on April 22nd and conclude before reopening on May 6th, 2025. However, rehabilitation works on the runway have been completed, and the runway is cleared for landings and takeoffs by the engineers working with FAAN.
While appreciating all airport users and stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation during the time of closure, FAAN apologises for the inconvenience but assures the public that all actions were taken in the interest of safety.
Akanu Ibiam International Airport is one of the five international airports in Nigeria operated by FAAN. The airport is a gateway to a number of States in Nigeria, including Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, Abia, Imo, Benue, and Cross River.

Wonderful event and topics discussed, hopefully we see the manifestations in our African airline businesses in the nearest future. Kudos to you all.
