Airlink, Southern Africa’s premier airline, will launch the first direct flights between Cape Town, South Africa and Maputo capital of Mozambique from 31 August 2022.
The route will initially operate three times a week using an Embraer 135. Outbound flight will operate on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. While inbound flights will operate on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
Flight 4Z 489 will depart Cape Town at 17:10 and arrive Maputo at 19:40. Flight 4Z 490 will depart Maputo at 06:10 and arrive Cape Town at 09:00. All times are local.
“Airlink is responding to the call of the travelling market for a direct service between the two coastal cities, which are also growing important centres of economic activity, including trade and tourism.
By flying direct, instead of via Johannesburg, we will more than halve the door-to-door travelling time, putting more hours back in our customers’ hands to do business and to enjoy the variety of activities, attractions, food and culture that Maputo offers,” explained Airlink CEO and Managing Director, Rodger Foster.
“This new route also supports Airlink’s strategy to grow and develop its network and schedule of flights connecting Cape Town with other key business and tourism destinations throughout Southern Africa,” he added.
Mozambique is an important market for Airlink, which currently provides flights from Johannesburg to Maputo, Beira, Nampula, Pemba, Tete and Vilanculos (which Airlink also serves directly from Mbombela/Nelspruit).
Tickets for flights on this new route have gone on sale. Customers can book, manage and get the latest information about Airlink flights on flyairlink.com, Airlink’s smartphone app or through travel agents.

Wow! Stunning! Hilton seems to be taking Africa by storm. Just a couple of years back, they opened the first ever in Eswatini.
Wonderful event and topics discussed, hopefully we see the manifestations in our African airline businesses in the nearest future. Kudos to you all.
