Whether you want to visit Ethiopia to discover many of the natural wonders of the land of origin or you are travelling to close an important business deal, you will need a visa. In May 2018, Ethiopian Immigration and Nationality Affairs Main Department in collaboration with Ethiopian Airlines, launched e-visa service for international visitors to Ethiopia. The e-visa became effective on 1 June, 2018. Although the e-visa service was launched a year earlier in June, 2017, it was only available for a limited number of countries. But now all international visitors can travel to Ethiopia by processing their visa online. The good thing about the eVisa system is that, in addition to providing applicants with simplicity and convenience, it saves time, energy and cost for travellers to Ethiopia. Another good thing about the eVisa is that during application, you can upload camera-captured picture files (in supported image formats) of your passport, photo and/or residence permit document instead of scanned copies. How to Apply for Ethiopian eVisa Citizens of all countries who have permanent residence permit and/or nationality in one of the countries listed as eligible on the website www.evisa.gov.et are eligible for an Ethiopian e-Visa. The e-Visa is processed and issued online on a single webpage where applicants apply, pay and secure their entry visa online. Visitors to Ethiopia from any country can make use of the service. Applicants with dual nationality should choose the nationality according to the passport to be used for the travel. Once the application is approved, applicants will receive an email authorizing them to travel to Ethiopia and they will get their passport stamped with the visa upon arrival in Addis Ababa.
