A shake-up of senior management staff at Kenya Airways appears imminent following the hiring of five new executives from Poland by the airline's new Chief Executive Officer, Sebastian Mikosz.
The five expatriates hired from his former employer, LOT Polish Airlines, effective September 1 include Monika Kietyka-Michna, Edyta Kijewska-Teny, Magdalena Serwach, Marcin Celejewski and Micha Mierciak.
According to Business Insider, the decision has already caused tension among workers who see it as a move targeted at those employed under former CEOs Titus Naikuni and Mbuvi Ngunze.
“As Kenya Airways is finalising the restructuring process and is about to embark on its mission to profitability,
I decided to strengthen the Transformation Office with a team of airline professionals who have accomplished similar goals before,” Mr Mikosz said in an email.
Although their jobs are yet to be specified, the new executives reportedly came as part of a restructuring plan to return the airline to profitability in addition to implementing key objectives throughout the company, including creating, driving and guarding cohesion of Kenya Airways strategy.
Management experts have warned that Mr Mikosz’ decision of taking on board such a large number of expatriates in senior positions that early in his tenure could be counter-productive.
In May, 2017, Kenya Airways appointment Mr Sebastian Mikosz the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer with effect from 1st June 2017, replacing Mbuvi Ngunze who held the post for two years.
Earlier in September, Mr Sebastian Mikosz was also appointed to the International Air Transport Association (IATA) board on an interim basis.
