The just concluded 13th edition of Akwaaba African Travel Market came with lots of excitement and pleasant surprises, especially with the introduction of the CHEF CHALLENGE a.k.a. Jollof Rice War which debuted on Day 1 of the three-day event at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos.
It was an honour to anchor this segment of the prestigious Akwaaba, as world-class Chefs from Nigeria and Ghana treated taste buds to great rice delicacies, all in a bid to promote culinary tourism.
AKWAABA 2017 was declared open by the Director General, National Council Of Arts and Culture, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe.
Also in attendance were representatives from various Tourism Boards, Tour Operators, Travel Agents, Hoteliers, Travel Journalists, World-class Chefs, Exhibitors, Guests and Tourism Stakeholders from all over (and around) Africa, including Rwanda, Kenya, Dubai, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Uganda, Gambia, Benin, Sudan, Nigeria, to name a few.
The Director of Media & Publicity of the Nigerian Chef's Association, Chef Olarenwaju Femi Success educated guests on what makes Nigerian jollof rice tick. Also speaking on what makes Ghanaian jollof rice tick was Chef Isaac Sacky. The Executive Chef of Protea Hotels, Chef Benoit Gbechoevi equally shared some jollof information.
Special thanks to Olam for providing all the rice (Mama's Pride) used for the maiden edition of Jollof Rice War.
The Compere did well to remind all participants and guests of activities lined up for the following days, including the Lagos City Tour sponsored by Lagos State Government, and presented by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Ashimi Adewale.
To the entertainment of all guests, Carnival Calabar revellers did what they know best.
Well done to the Organiser of Akwaaba, Mr. Ikechi Uko and Team, for a well coordinated event, being the only international travel fair in West Africa.
Akwaaba is a face-to-face marketing platform for travel companies, and a meeting place for travel and tourism investors to network.

Wow! Stunning! Hilton seems to be taking Africa by storm. Just a couple of years back, they opened the first ever in Eswatini.
Wonderful event and topics discussed, hopefully we see the manifestations in our African airline businesses in the nearest future. Kudos to you all.
